diefenbaker place - melfort housing authority

Diefenbaker Place, located at 201-205 Park Avenue in Melfort, SK, provides housing for Senior Citizens or Physically Disabled Persons capable of living independently.  An entry phone system provides secure access to the building, which is located within walking distance of the Melfort Mall, where tenants can access grocery shopping, a pharmacy, clothing and gift store(s), and the Family Physicians Group.

Each suite is unfurnished with the exception of refrigerator and range.  Laundry rooms are conveniently located on each floor, and the tenants have access to spacious sitting and recreation areas.  A whirlpool tub on site is a benefit for those tenants requiring assistance with personal care, and our Guest Suite can be reserved for family or friends coming to visit.

Applicants must qualify according to Saskatchewan Housing Corporation’s policies and guidelines for Social Housing.  Income limits must not exceed the Saskatchewan Household Income Maximums (SHIMs), and the asset limit for Senior households is currently $300,000.  Seniors who do not meet the eligibility criteria for the Social Housing Program may be eligible for other housing programs, and should contact the Housing Authority for more information.

Diefenbaker Place has an active Tenant Association, with a variety of social activities.  Tenants may also benefit from the daily meal program, library, monthly wellness clinics, exercise equipment, hairdresser services, bakery, and other product deliveries.

Rent is calculated at 30% of gross household income, and includes heat, water/sewer, and laundry.  Security Deposits are collected for each suite.  Charges apply for electricity, parking, and trash removal.

Tenants are encouraged to purchase insurance so they are protected in the event of a fire or other incident.  Diefenbaker Place, and all Melfort Housing Authority properties, are non-smoking, and pets are not allowed.
